Tasha Tudor Day~Sachet Making~Corgyn~Trifle

Dear Friends, thank you so much for your patience! Here I am co-hostessing Tasha Tudor Day with the lovely Clarice and my post is a day late...tsk...tsk...tsk.  But, I am sure you'll forgive this busy mum of five, won't you?  Saturday was a full day for us all, morning classes, school readying in the way of shoe and clothes shopping and then finally home to a bit of supper.

We did take time to celebrate Tasha Tudor Day by making lavender sachets. My Mum's birthday is approaching and my girls thought sachets would be a lovely gift for their Nana. Notice material and thread had to be in lavender! One little girl likes everything to match.

We New Englanders are enjoying again, very, very warm weather. High 90's to be exact. The back yard near the gazebo is bordered by stone walls and it is very cool with lots of shade. I even wore my old-fashioned frock and petticoat for a bit.

Corgis are always ready to sit on my lap or trip me as I descend the stone steps in a long dress. Yet, they smile and yodel at me and how can you stay cross.

I made a delicious trifle for dessert. Angel food cake , fresh strawberries and whipped cream--yummy!  We read Becky's birthday and thought of all the lovely traditions that Tasha established with her young family.  My girls would love for me to float their birthday cake down the river we have in back, but I am not that adventuresome...LOL!  We enjoyed looking through my collection of Tasha's books, checking her elaborate borders for treasures we had not noticed before.  Corgiville Fair is our favorite and we all chatted about how wonderful it would be if it really existed. My daughter asked, "Wouldn't it be neat Mum if we could jump into the pages and play with everyone"!  " Yes, it certainly would", I smiled and replied.

As I thought about Tasha and how she has impacted my life, I realized that what I treasured most was how she showed people that they could still find and experience the magic in life. That while she loved many old-fashioned things she was still very much a modern woman.  She really was a talented artist and is a national treasure!

I am even more thankful for the many kindred spirits I have met through our mutual admiration of Tasha. These long distance friends have become somewhat like extended family. The kindred spirits I have been able to meet in person I hold close to my heart and thank them dearly for their gift of friendship and encouragement in my life.

Well, homeschool starts tomorrow and we are topping off the weekend with a campfire tonight. My husband built a very nice fire pit for us and I have all the makings in a basket for s'mores. Good times and good memories in the making. But, before I leave you I must insist you watch this video--a treat for any lover of all things Tasha Tudor! Thanks to Conghaile Cottage for uploading this to YouTube.

Happy Birthday Tasha Tudor!

Take Peace,

Suzanne

  3. Hello Linda,
Tasha was frail in the video, she of course was quite old. I only hope at her age I can still putter around in my garden on my own two feet:-)

  5. Thank you so much for visiting my blog, on Tasha Day! And thus, I get to find your delightful 'Blueberry Cottage.'

I just love everything/anything connected to the word "cottage"! Oh my yes! I'll never get to live in one, since we'll be staying in the same 2 story home, in which we raised our family... Until we pass on. :-) I'd love something smaller, but we live next to the homes of the majority of our family, soooooo... :-) It's just not going to happen.

So I make believe that the 5 rooms and 1 1/2 baths we still use, are all on one floor and are a Cottage! :-)))) Imagination is a wonderful thing. :-))))

Oh how glorious to have and wear an old fashioned frock! You lucky, lucky you! Wondering if you sewed it yourself or....?

Again, thank you for stopping by and introducing yourself!

    Gentle hugs...

  10. Hello Catherine,
I do believe Tasha was in her late eighties at the time. I just sent my DVD to a friend so can't check the date on it. The Japanese filmed her during the four different seasons. She is quite admired in Japan.

LOVE those sachets, they "WOULD" be wonderful Christmas gifts... AND ever since Tasha's birthday I have dug out MORE and MORE of the iron baking pans to make HER gingerbread, YUMMY! Hope we get rid of the 90s though... AND good luck to us all for the hurricanes to "MISS us ALL"!!!
