Naughty Cat!

While passing by a kitchen window I spied one of our barn cats, Gracie. An expert and very patient hunter, she was crouched next to a tasty display of bird seed that a certain seven year old laid upon the rock wall that encloses my herb garden. After shooing Gracie away I had to explain to a bewildered little girl that it is quite dangerous for the birds food to be in reach of the cats. Quite seriously she told me, "Well Mumma, I heard you tell Daddy that if those bullyish blue jays don't find another diner your gonna get Sam's air soft gun and help them along. So, I figured the cats would frighten them away." Ahem...yes, I recall being a bit exasperated with the blue jays the other day. A mother really has to watch her words, doesn't she?

  1. Oh I love the Blue Jays and buy peanuts just for them! I love to listen to them call the other jays to feast! They really don't compete too much at our feeder.

  2. What a clever girl you have there!

And Gracie is lovely. She reminds me of our Maine Coon. :)

  3. I have moved our feeders three times. Waldo and Lydia (apologies to your Lydia) are very clever about stalking the birds. They will crouch under the holly and wait for them. Honestly, Waldo can nearly fly! And Lydia is so fast!

Hopefully, we have finally gotten our birds where they are safe and can eat!
