FRIDAY'S FRUGAL FEATS::CHRISTMAS EDITION

I have the holidays on my mind! Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's.  With having to tighten up the purse strings significantly, my focus this week has been on how to save money on gifts and gift-giving without being cheap and stingy. The Lord wants me to give with a joyful heart! But, there is just not enough cash to go around, sadly.  Unless the financial climate changes I must get and be creative with the holiday gift list.

Taking stock of patterns and supplies and arming myself with a list of gift recipients, I have come up with a few handmades that won't break the bank or take oodles of time. Time is in short supply too at this time of year. This is what I have come up with so far. Tweaking weekly will happen as I add more ideas!

  • I have lots of emboridery patterns and supplies. Pick a piece that is easy and not too time consuming for gifts for my Mother, Aunt Sue, grandaughter Rachel.  Vickie, over at Turkey Feathers has great patterns and I have collected quite a few vintage ones. Another one is Mulberry Folk Art. For my grandaughter the classic Princess and the Pea from Follow the White Bunny on Etsy. I have a copy of the book from Barefoot Books so will include that with it.
  • Knitting supplies-take stock. I can knit three nordic ski hats and sweater for youngest grandson Aaron.
  • Sewing: plenty of fabric to make simple skirts for Lydia and oldest grandaughter.
  • Pick recipes for gifts--only three! Started stocking supplies for this ! Italian cookies, already have all the anise flavorings.  Peanut butter cups and Martha's peppermint bark. Done!

Any Christmas plans on your mind or paper yet?

  1. Good morning, What will you make out of The Princess and the Pea? Maybe a pillow? So cute! Angela

    1. Hi Angela,
      I think I will frame it, that way she can hang it in her room and always have it. I will probably put it behind non glare glass so it won't fade. Perhaps she'll hand it down to her children:-)
      Thanks,
      Suzanne

  2. Great ideas. I'm beginning to think about homemades, too. My Amy, 11, told me this week that she wants a homemade Christmas this year.

    Blessings to you,

  4. I've already been asking my friends what they want for Christmas. So far it seems like I'll be making 2 hats. Now just awaiting the list from the family! Those peanut butter cups look amazing.

  5. I have been starting to think Christmas too. Homemade is always on my list. This year I am thinking embroidery too, however will have to be very simple, fast projects so I can have them done for gift giving. The peppermint bark looks really, really ymmy!!

  6. So lovely to visit with you, Suzanne! What a blessing to see your ideas! I love them! We try to do mostly homemade, but it is hard sometimes! It is wise to start now, isn't it?? I have been knitting lots of scarves from left over yarn -- especially sock yarn! They make lovely, lightweight scarves... and I get to play on Ravelry until I find Just The Right Thing! LOL How are you doing??
